Given Dr. Mello’s extensive research experience in pulmonary and sleep medicine, he is considered a thought leader in airways diseases and sleep medicine and serves as a committee member for the American Academy of Sleep Medicine. Some of the disease states we specialize in include COPD, asthma, interstitial lung diseases, lung cancer, chronic cough, the evaluation of shortness of breath, sleep apnea, insomnia, narcolepsy, and REM behavior disorder.
About Curtis J. Mello, MD, MPH, MBA, FCCP
Board Certifications
Dr. Mello is a graduate of Bishop Stang High School and UMASS Dartmouth, where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology and a Master’s in Business Administration. He also earned a Master’s of Public Health degree from Boston University’s School of Public Health and his MD from the University of Massachusetts Medical School. Dr. Mello completed his internship and residency at Brown University and fellowships in pulmonary and critical care medicine at UMass Memorial Medical Center.
Dr. Mello served as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at Brown University for a number of years and practiced critical care medicine for 20 years. He also has considerable experience in health care administration and medical staff leadership. Dr. Mello is nationally recognized for his work as a clinical researcher and has been a principal investigator for more than 190 clinical trials. His research has focused on new therapies for COPD and asthma. In addition, he has extensive clinical trial experience in exploring new treatments for obesity, fibromyalgia, narcolepsy, insomnia and idiopathic hypersomnia. Dr. Mello is a nationally recognized speaker on various topics in asthma and COPD and serves on several medical advisory boards and is a member of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine’s payer policy relations committee.

Kaylee J. Taillon, PA-C

Kaylee J. Taillon, PA-C joined the Pulmonary & Sleep Medicine Associates, Inc. (PSMA) in late 2021. Kaylee received a Bachelor of Science degree from East Carolina University and a Master of Science degree from Bryant University. Growing up in a military family, Kaylee has lived in many parts of this country but has family ties to the Southcoast. Prior to joining us, Kaylee practiced primary care medicine at Village Primary Care in East Providence, RI. While there, Kaylee had her own, busy primary care practice. Kaylee has undergone advanced studies in the treatment of obstructive sleep apnea and cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia as well as general pulmonary medicine. Since joining PSMA, she has furthered her expertise in the treatment of sleep and pulmonary disorders. PSMA’s model of healthcare delivery is team-based. Kaylee works closely with Dr. Mello on all patient cases. All cases are reviewed and treatment plans developed in collaboration with and under Dr. Mello’s guidance.
Toby Weiser, PA-C

Toby Weiser, PA-C joined Pulmonary and Sleep Medicine Associates in January 2023. She transferred from the Coastal Medical Specialty Care Center when Dr. Pomerantz retired. She brings 20 years of experience as a clinical Physician Assistant, Her focus over the past 10+ years has been on pulmonary & sleep medicine. She has specialized training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia and a special interest in assisting patients with their sleep issues. She has extensive training in sleep medicine and the management of sleep apnea, restless leg syndrome, narcolepsy, REM sleep behavior disorder and parasomnias. Her background includes 4 years in Otolaryngology and 10 years in Allergy and Asthma treatment. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Goucher College, her Bachelor of Science and PA certification from MCP Hahnemann University and her Masters degree from University of Nebraska.
